Counselling for Adults

What to expect from Counselling?

Counselling offers a safe environment in which you can express your feelings and gain a deeper insight into your issues. There are many reasons people seek the support of a counsellor: they may be feeling a ‘bit stuck’, or want to explore experiences from their past, people also have counselling if there are things in the present that they want to try and change. Whatever your issues or concerns are, I am here to listen and help you understand them.

During the first session, I will discuss the Framework for Counselling with you, including, confidentiality, length and timing of sessions and payment. The framework provides a secure and confidential agreement between us.

The first counselling session, starts to build a therapeutic relationship and begins to explore in more depth your concerns and difficulties. You will also have space to consider your objectives for therapy.

I recommend weekly sessions for adults of 50 minutes. Whilst there is no requirement to book a set number of sessions, experience has shown that an initial 6-12 works well. This is however, entirely up to you and can be reviewed at any time.

Depression, stress, and low self esteem are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we can experience. Through counselling I can help you understand how to recover the motivation, perspective, and joy that you once had in your life.

Many clients also come to counselling to explore symptoms associated with painful and traumatic circumstances. Anxiety, fear, and hopelessness are a few emotions that can linger after traumatic events. I can help you overcome these symptoms and guide you through the process of grief and healing.

I have worked with the following issues, which is not an exhaustive list. I am always happy to discuss your unique circumstances in more detail.

  • Self-esteem
  • Loss and bereavement
  • Trauma
  • Problems at work
  • Stress
  • Drug and alcohol dependency
  • Abuse
  • Self-harm
  • Eating disorders
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Anger
  • Disability
  • Lack of meaning
  • Relationship difficulties
